Momalom is holding a grand Five for Ten adventure, wherein a whole bunch of bloggers all write on the same topic. Five topics, ten days, a hundred bloggers. Today’s topic is happiness. (Yesterday’s was courage.) There are lots more happiness posts here. If you’re visiting from Five for Ten: Hi there! Are you feeling the happy?

You’ve heard of six-word memoirs? Sum up your life in six words? I thought we’d sum up happiness in six words. So here goes.
—
Happiness is…
Chocolate cake. (That’s only two words!)
Smiling faces first thing every morning.
Freshly brushed teeth (mine). Ahhh yes.
Cultivating wonder and delight by proximity.
Sweet little people, giggling and playing.
Singing, cheerfully off-key, everyone at once.
Sisters and brother, hugs with kisses.
No bickering allowed. Choose kind words.
Being able to locate both shoes.
Green grass, blue sky, peppy music.
Toddler fingers full of dandelion fluff.
Sun-warmed skin; vitamin D helps.
Tiny belly kicks, wiggles, rolls, hiccups.
The smell of green tomato plants.
Taking a walk, our whole family.
Someone else pushing the double stroller.
Notes from friends, or good news.
Typing, having the right words appear.
Making something, and finishing. Accomplishment rocks.
Or: not having a to-do list.
Hanging with people who get you.
Minty tea with plenty of honey.
Magnetic poetry, left as secret messages.
He and I, anytime. Just… being.
Up late talking and laughing together.
More chocolate cake, with much frosting.
Surprisingly, sleep doesn’t make the list.

Okay, your turn. Happiness, in six words exactly. As many times as you like. Go!

Sleepy morning family cuddles in bed
Baby boy newly discovering his feet
Big sister squealing when baby smiles.
Warm Body cuddles with my love
Sun sinking into the vast ocean
Being surrounded by people who care
Making a whole new little person
Watching little people grow and discover
Helping others feel loved and happy
The parcel man bringing a surprise
Freshly picked flower from your garden
Delivered by your gorgeous little girl (Oops 12 words- they might stand alone)
falling asleep amongst my sleepy family.
I didn’t even think of the parcel man! Oh yes.
And I love the sleepy family. Nothing better than that.
giggles, dancing, and hugs before bed
wine, wine, wine, wine, wine, wine
And not a whine among them!
Nine kids to keep life chaotic
Working remote, spending time with kids
Watching my boys grow into men
Helping those in need find happiness
Step-, Biological-, Foster- … all our kids!
Our family … good enough for now
My six word reply:
Your house sounds like good times.
Good enough, indeed.
Time to read and relax alone
Scattered moments to sit and blog
Scattered moments of happiness, I like.
Tickle times and ensuing belly laughs
Coos and giggles at 4 AM
The first “Mommy” from my toddler
Hearing “Daddy” rather than “Mommy”
I’m sure I have more but my brain has decided to stop working. Come on, brain, It’s only 1:00 here!
Dude. My brain turned off before lunch. (Okay, that’s seven words.)
But I love hearing “Daddy,” too! (And that’s six!)
It’s like micro poetry!
::Looking into eyes bluer than mine::
::Watching toddler devour a cookie::
::Little butt crack at the beach::
You guys are all so poetic!
Oh, the little tush at the beach!
Savoring now and dreaming the future.
Great post. Thrilled to be here reading your words!
Lovely. Expansive but immediate. Happiness indeed.
Love, living in the now, life
Silly little feet dancing all day
Coming home from trip, happy overload
(such a great idea!)
Happy overload, hooray! I love it.
What a great thread!
Happiness is…
Counting baby’s eyelashes one by one.
Easy to lose yourself over eyelashes. (six words! I’m inordinately proud of myself for every six word response.)
Hearing please without having to ask
Cold ice cream under hot sun
Small and sweaty hands in mine
Being on the same page, often
God forgiving me, again and again
A blog that makes me smile ;0)
Your happiness feels ever so summery!
Meeting new bloggers through Momalon challenge
napping, napping, napping, napping, napping, napping
reading in bed with a book
warm tea on a rainy day
the whole family happy at once
everyone happy breeds even more happiness
Living life everyday in the now
Running outside in the early morning
Reading, Writing, Blogging, Reviewing, Editing Words
Loved this challenge. Thank You.
Living, running, now. Reading, writing, now.
I love how active your happinesses sound!
My boys, the beach, sticky hands
Wet willies, Funny faces, armpit farts
My husband, my friends, my family
Brie cheese, french bread, good wine
This is fun, I could go on forever….great idea.
The joys of little boys, unabashed!
Such good stuff, all of it.
Hi Melissa – I’m over here from Momalom, and I’m glad I found your site.
Love your happiness post. “Toddler fingers full of dandelion fluff.” – Yes! Mine just discovered dandelions too and it’s just such a sweet wonder.
“He and I, anytime. Just… being.
Up late talking and laughing together.” Yes! ALMOST nothing better. Except maybe for baby belly laughs.
Oh! Baby belly laughs, I love.
So nice to have you stop by, Justine!
Two little best friend brothers playing.
Silence: not a word nor peep.
A strong hug with no end.
Reading your writing and feeling happy.
!!!
[that's it. a weekly thing. monthly? whenever we remember it? be sure to let me know. i'm all over it. love IT. love you.]
Silence! I had forgotten about it.
Freshly washed jeans that still fit
Little sister gazing at big brother
High fives after an awesome day
Back rubs and cuddles before sleep
This is such a great exercise in precision and gratitude.
Any jeans that fit! Ever. Now.
These read like a snapshot of your day! So cool.
Oh I loved this. So many great 6 word happiness phrases here.
How about:
Comforting hugs that say “I’m Here”.
Butterfly kisses from tiny soft eyelashes
Oh, the comforting hug! Love that.
Sunrises. Sunsets. And life in between.
From beginning to end! Just right.
Oh, I LOVE the smell of tomato plants! Why is that?
And even more, I love the idea of six-word memoirs. Sometimes, it’s so good to boil things down to what really matters.
Wagging tail and wet dog kisses.
Strong coffee, fresh croissant. Ahh, breakfast.
Take and bake pizza extra cheese.
Breakfast, how I love thee. Usually.
There used to be a candle company that made tomato plant scented candles, but I think they are no more. The real thing’s better anyhow. And way less weird. We’ve got I think eight tomato plants growing right now, and even if they never fruit, I’ll just enjoy them for the smell!
