apple picking
No, we didn’t go apple picking today. We went weeks ago, back when theoretically apples might still have been on trees. They weren’t actually; we were about a month too late, and the trees were clinging to sad dry leaves and a few hard little unripened fruits.
I choose to believe that’s not a metaphor for anything at all.
And hey, the orchard looks nice, no?

Did you take this picture? It is very nice. What kind of apples did you pick? Do you can them? Make apple butter? Apple pies? Just eat them?
Well! Yes, I took that picture– you can see how long it took me to focus by how far ahead the kids ran.
We’ve been to this orchard in years past, and they grow a bunch of different varieties of apples to eat (uh, would you call that table apples? like table grapes? not sure). This year we just got a few apples, but normally we’d get a couple of bags and eat them all up before we had a chance to do anything else with them!
I have lovely photos of our apple-picking adventure this year. But, um, they are on my camera. With about a bazillion others. And the apples are long gone, too. These are the best outings, though, aren’t they. The orchard-y type ones.
