Given that we are in the middle of a drought, is it not fitting that there is nothing—nothing!—that the toddler would like to do, but stand at the kitchen sink and splash in running water? Well, that’s not entirely true. She’s also willing to play with running water in the bathroom sink, or in the bathtub. (No, she has no interest in splashing in a full tub or sink or bucket. Only in running water.) If only I knew how to build a recirculating fountain…

Aaaawwww….where are the pictures. This post begs for pictures!
Hi! Thanks for stopping by my blog and commenting! I agree–we want pictures of toddler in water! My little one’s the same way. Fill a kiddie pool or the tub and he’s not interested. Run the sink? He wants to sit in it.
I have had this same thought so many times! It’s tough to be a toddler during a drought…
I think if we conserve all around, a little running water is ok (I also somehow justify long hot showers – for my health)… Plus Alessa helps me to clean some dishes in the running water. If a large amount of it ends up on the floor, then I can clean that part of the floor
.
Thanks for coming by and commenting on my blog.
Sadly here in Australia we are in a semi-permanent state of drought. (I wonder if it’s me. I grew up in SoCal, where there was also a drought. Hmmm.) My kids loved to play with water, which always made me somehow feel really guilty. In the end I used to fill an old baby bath (which they were too big to bathe in, but small enough to sit in) about halfway with tepid water, throw in some ice cubes (for them to swirl around and get excited about) and then put the whole thing in the garden. I figure that way at least whatever water spilled out was going back to nature.

I remember my oldest daughter especially loved water play. When her brother was born I’d fill the kitchen sink, give her a chair and a bunch of plastic dishes and she’d “wash dishes” for an hour at least!
Pictures! Oh my. You mean I have to grab the camera and snap before the girly lunges for it with her wet hands? This may take some doing. We shall see what I can manage.
Also: hi everybody!
Also also: thank goodness mine isn’t the only water-obsessed toddler in droughtland. I was starting to worry that maybe I was unwittingly raising little non-conservationists.
