Dear Internet,
I’ve been neglecting you today, and I probably will tomorrow as well, because the library gave me good stuff this week: The Help, by Kathryn Stockett, and Liar, by Justine Larbalestier. (Yes, Liar is a Young Adult novel. I’m not that old. Okay, yes, I am that old. I’m not really exactly totally completely the target audience for this novel. I’m reading it anyway—devoured half of it already this evening.)
Also on the hold shelf for me at the library this week: Vegan Cupcakes Take Over The World. So you can see I’m a tiny bit busy. Between the reading and the avoiding preparing for the holidays, I’m swamped.
Whoops, did I say that thing about avoiding the holidays? Shouldn’t have mentioned that. Discussing the whole looming-holidays-thing impairs my ability to be in denial. If I keep pretending they’re not getting ready to run me over like a freight train, maybe they won’t! On that note: anybody have any book suggestions?
xo.

PS – By “Internet” I mean news stories and email and shopping and research and such. I have in no way been neglecting to read my 96 trillion favorite blogs. Or facebook. Just to be clear.
PPS – I know I just wrote a dear-something-else post yesterday, but hey. It’s been a slow weekend.

I just finished The Help and loved it!!!!
You just reminded me that I have books that need to go back to the library.
And yeah — the holidays cramp my internet usage as well!!!
Enjoy your books and have a happy Thanksgiving!
I love your Dear posts. I might have to steal your style one day. And I’m finally all caught up on your blog. And it looks the same! The eleventy billion minutes it took you to update it paid off!
Um. The Help? Stalled out on the second chapter. Pathetic, I know. And has NOTHING TO DO with the fact that I fall asleep after 10 minutes with a book these days.
And if you need book suggestions…um, let me just say that Jen and my mom are two of the most well read women I know. I would never even put myself in that category. Seriously. They are a-mazing. So next time you are set to reserve something at the library but cannot find that one great read, send an email our way.
Off the top of my head. The History of Love, by Nicole Krauss. Have you read that? Oh. Goodness. So Much Goodness.
Sarah: Oooh, yes. I loved History of Love!
Jen: Thanks for noticing!
Jessica: I’m like a library-reminder system. Almost. Except less useful.
Kitch: I’m only a few chapters in, but I did get started on it! Yay me.
I am so glad I found you. Love this post and can provide you with plenty of books to delay the holidays. Unfortunately, the delay is virtual and they will still arrive at their designated time.
Aw man! Confounded by virtual delay. Drat.
I am internet avoiding in BIG WAYS. Today is the first day that I turned on my computer in well over a week. Course I check in with Facebook and Twitter on my phone but that hardly counts.
My distractions include:
1. HBO’s True Blood. Which makes me feel like all good tv, movies, and lit should include a vampire storyline.
2. Glee. Not a big tv watcher until this fall. It *might* be a problem.
3. Baby blanket knitting for the new little ones in my life.
4. Many good books: right now: Love in the Time of Cholera by Garbriel Garcia Marquez, recently finished: all of The No.1 Ladies Detective Agency books (also one season on HBO based on these books), The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, and a book called: The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down, which is a very easy to read cultural anthropology book about a Laotian refugee with epiliepsy and the American Medical system.
5. Rock Band. The Beatles edition. Need I explain?
6. Hot Tub. Husband’s newest toy. Have to admit I am benefiting from it’s presence in my yard.
Distractions planned for next week:
1. Christmas baking. Because what would Christmas be with out thousands of extra calories.
2. Sledding. Because we are supposed to be getting a lot of snow in the next few days.
Real life is good. The Internet will forgive you! (Since I’m neglecting my own blog these days, just thought I’d create a post sized comment for you. You’re welcome.)
