This morning we woke up to pouring rain. “You want to walk?” I asked Dane.
“Uh, no,” he said.
Instead, we dressed ourselves and our kids in jeans and windbreakers, tied up shoes, buckled everyone into the car and drove over to the fire station.
Dane stood with the kids while I filled out my ballot—no fancy machines for us, we kick it old school with paper ballots and sharpie markers—and then he waited in line for his turn while the kids accepted multiple “I Voted” stickers from poll workers.
Then we had to wait another twelve hours to find out which way the election would break. (And heck, we’re still waiting on several state propositions.)
Waiting, as it turns out, is hard work. I’m exhausted. (Daylight savings time, as always, is not helping.) The kids stayed up just long enough to see the election called, and to watch the televised celebrating.
And it was an election worth watching, no? Both men gave speeches worthy of their stature tonight, don’t you think? Gracious, heartfelt, forward-looking. One of the campaign’s better moments, even coming as it did after the campaigning ended. And now: on to daily life, as regularly scheduled. I’m ready. You?

I agree, it was a noteworthy election. I stayed up long enough to hear Mc Cain’s speech which I was very impressed with but had to tend to other matters before listening to Obama’s. I can’t believe some of the Props are still undetermined. Waiting is hard…
I agree; both GREAT speeches!
