Heaven help us.
The library summer reading program started today. Since it was so fabulous last year, we thought we’d get in on the action right away. (And yes, thank you, I did just link to four separate posts about the library. Four.)
Abigail and Owen signed up and gave their first book reports; Audrey was furious that she didn’t get any prizes.
Any guesses how long until I wish we’d never heard of summer reading programs?

Heh. For a couple of years, I actually banned the summer reading program in my house. The librarians thought I was nuts: “but they can win prizes!” Um, yeah. But then they focus solely on the exact number of minutes they read, rather than on actually reading, which they are doing very nicely thank you. The carrot and stick may work well to entice non-readers, but since my kids already loved to read, it was just a PITA. Such a curmudgeon, I am.
I keep thinking, at least they’re not giving out fast food coupons…
And today we discovered that if you check in too many times in one week, they stop giving you prizes! Sweet!
